The History of February

So many things come to mind when I think of the month of February. There are several holidays and historical figures’ birthdays. People like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, Longfellow— I could go on. Valentine’s Day is in February; a time to appreciate our family and friends. There are also lots of important events that have happened in the month of February. On the first of February, our Supreme Court met for the first time (no pun intended).  Also the last of the Nazis surrendered to Russia in 1943. So we see that February is a time when many people remember each other and our nation’s history.

But this February, I want to focus on our history. Many of the great presidents who were born in February paved the way to our country being what it is today; they might not want to claim all of it today. Men like George Washington, Abraham Lincoln, and Ronald Reagan have stepped in when our country needed them and did the job that others were scared to do. George Washington was a man that led the settlers to defeating the British and making our country independent. Abraham Lincoln helped our country through the toughest time in our history. Ronald Reagan took over from an administration which had nearly destroyed all our weaponry and had put us in a vulnerable position. These men are heroes in our eyes and are looked upon with the highest esteem. So in February, remember the people who made our country what it is and be thankful.
